Bret McKenzie, half of New Zealand’s fourth-most-popular folk duo Flight of the Conchords, has won an Oscar for the song Man or Muppet. Bret McKenzie has carved his name alongside Sir Peter Jackson and Sir Richard Taylor as a Kiwi Oscar-winner. The Flight Of The Conchords star won best original song for Man or Muppet, from The Muppets film, at the star-studded ceremony this afternoon. He beat out the only other nominated tune, Real in Rio, from animated film Rio.

McKenzie started his acceptance speech by recalling his New Zealand upbringing.

Trans-Tasman Rivalry

Humour is a funny business:

The British poke fun at the Welsh and the Americans give it to the Canadians - and so on and so forth… The Trans-Tasman rivalry between Australia and New Zealand has never been stronger - Australians are the butt of Kiwi humour and vice versa, but when all is said and done its fair to say we…err…. um … are moderately fond of each other. Although it all seems good-natured and friendly with plenty of back slapping banter on and off the field, if you look closely enough there can be some good old petulance to be seen.

Who are we…

Lost in the Sahara and low on water, arrested in Zaire for spying (Long Story) or unashamedly stuck in an unpronounceable airport with not a penny to thy name. The industry can put you in some interesting situations and teach you a trick or two, including the power of a bit of local knowledge. We have owned and operated an African safaris company, set up a dive training school in the in the Middle East and founded an adventure centre in the UK.
