Surfing Raglan

Surfing Raglan

Just a two-hour drive south of Auckland, is New Zealand's favourite surf town - Raglan! Besides the beautiful scenery of black sand coastlines, the residents of Raglan and their laid-back lifestyle form a unique atmosphere here. Surfers visit the Raglan area from all continents to enjoy the world-class left-hand point breaks. However, it is the consistency of surf at Raglan that makes it remarkable.

RaglanRaglan Beach

Famous for surfing, music, artisans, cafés and a bohemian lifestyle, the Raglan community is only 35 minute drive from Hamilton and just two hours from Auckland on the beautiful west coast of the North Island. This is a relaxing isolated place where you can spend time at one of the many black sand beaches swimming, surfing and body boarding or just working on the perfect tan! The area is world renowned for it's surfing and has some of the best waves in New Zealand, especially just out of Raglan at Whale Bay and Manu Bay where clean glassy left handers roll into the beach. Nearby are the Bridal Veil Falls which are an impressive sight falling around 60 metres – well worth a look

Indicators Beach

We recommend stopping at Indicators Beach which offers the longest and fastest breaking of the three Raglan points. Featuring a range of high-performance sections with lots of opportunities to get in the barrel! Usually a staunch crowd here so surf with respect and you won't have a problem. We advise intermediate to expert level surfers here.

Manu Bay

Only few kilometers south of the town you will explore Manu Bay with one of the longest left hand rides of the world. This location was also the film set of ‘The Endless Summer’.
