Whangamata Bar

Located mid way up the Coromandel Coast is home to one of the finest left river bar breaks in New Zealand. Paddle out via the rip in the channel but watch the strong outgoing tides if you're not an experienced or paddle-fit surfer. The waves start as a sucky drop followed by a great barreling section, carve up the long workable wall for about 150m. This is a fairly crowded beach being a well-known holiday destination for Kiwi's. In the peak of summer it can become very crowded, especially the bar when it's firing. Remember to respect other surfers as there are generally plenty of waves for everyone!

Hotwater Beach

Voted as one of the top ten most beautiful beaches in the world, this is a great place to stay and surf! It's steep profile produces a range or waves suitable for all levels. In the northern end of the beach you can find a left-hand point break, whilst in the southern end, you'll find the right-hand reef breaks. The beach itself offers powerful peaks producing grunty sand sucking barrels.

At low tide in front of the banks and rocky outcrop are natural hot water pools, great for the kids and you'll find lots of tourists digging in the sand for their natural spa.
