West Coast Beaches, Gannets and Wine Tour - Full Day
The unique Waitakere rainforest and wild beach’s are just a thirty-minute drive from Downtown Auckland. Escape from the city and experience the wild west coast black sand beaches and lush native bush.
First we visit Muriwai, a spectacular beach with expansive black sand coastline and wild surf. At its southern end of the beach lies Otakamiro Point, the site of one of New Zealand’s few mainland breeding gannet colonies. About 1,200 pairs of adult gannets nest here each summer Watching the comings and goings of these fascinating birds can be hugely entertaining.
The ‘West’s’ wineries are world-renowned offering a great range of excellent wines. This is where New Zealand’s wine industry was founded by pioneering settlers from the Mediterranean coast of Croatia well over 100 years ago. It’s an area steeped in local wine history and features many well known heritage wineries and produce a wide variety of wine types, everything from Sauvignon Blanc & Pinot Gris to Cabernet/Merlot & Pinot Noir.
We usually visit three of historical 3rd generation, family run wineries stopping usually the second one for lunch (lunch at own expense)
