Clearwater Golf Club
Home to the NZPGA Championship, part of the European Tour and a ‘must play’ on any NZ Golf holiday is Clearwater Resort golf course. There are elements of links and parkland golf at Clearwater course with an abundance of water.
The resort’s 15 hectares (37 acres) of lakes are fed by natural springs and crystal clear streams that are teeming with trout. Water comes into play at 14 of the holes with numerous grass hazards of tussocks and marram grasses. There are five-position tees, including the championship tees which are rated by NZ Golf Association as the toughest in the country.
Designed by John Darby in consultation with New Zealand golfing legend, Sir Bob Charles, the course combines elements of links golf inspired by the great Scottish courses with parkland golf, more reminiscent of Florida.
Playable year-round, the course meanders around a succession of spring-fed lakes and trout-filled streams, with uninterrupted views of the spectacular Southern Alps. A visit to Clearwater Golf Club also includes the opportunity to sample local produce, award winning wines and warm Canterbury service in the comfort of the Members Lounge before or after your round.

Signature hole
The par 3 ninth hole combines the challenge of a full water carry with the effect of the prevailing head wind. The par 5 fourteen hole features two water crossings, out of bounds and a tricky split green to challenge every golfers straetgic thinking.
