As you paddle, look out for the White Heron (Kotuku) as well as Shags and Royal Spoon Bills. The rarest of New Zealand\u2019s five kiwi species, the Okarito Kiwi, also lives in the area. More than 70 other bird species have been recorded here \u2013 the lagoon is a birdwatcher\u2019s paradise.
