Cetaceans are the stuff of legends. Whether we’re talking about dolphins boosting alongside boats and backward-somersaulting in play, or whales majestically breaching the surface before plunging into the depths to feed, these sleek, intelligent creatures have mesmerized people throughout history. Encountering them in the wild on their own terms is an exhilarating experience and it’s no secret that New Zealand is a hotspot for whales and dolphins.

It is hard to say what it is about whales and dolphins that attract humans, but they certain have that ‘X’ factor. And if you have ever wanted to meet them in their own environment, here is your chance!

New Zealand is considered one of the cetacean (whales, dolphins and porpoises) watching hot-spots in the world. Given that at least 35 of the 80-odd different species can be found here, it is no wonder it has earned such a reputation.
