Q: Do I need an international drivers licence to drive in New Zealand?

A: You can legally drive in New Zealand if you have either a current driver's licence from your home country, or an International Driving Permit (IDP). The law here requires all drivers carry their licence or permit when driving. You will only be able to drive the same types of vehicles you are licensed to drive in your home country. Just make sure your driver's licence is current, and if not in English you should bring an English translation with you or obtain an IDP.

Q: Which side of the road do you drive on in New Zealand?

A: New Zealanders drive on the left-hand side of the road. Drivers give way (or yield) to all traffic crossing or approaching from the right.

Q: Can I request an automatic or stick-shift/manual vehicle?

A: Yes of course. Most vehciles (but not all) are available in manual or automatic. If you have a preference please make sure you let us know.

Q: If I book a driving holiday, will you supply me with touring maps?

A: Yes we certainly will.

Q: Are there speed limits?

A: The maximum speed limit is 100km/h on the open road and 50km/h in urban areas, although in some areas there may be other limits. Regardless of the speed limit though, always drive to the weather and road conditions.
