Newsletter - April '05

Kia Ora

Having just got back from a short trip to Perth Australia, it never fails to amaze me of the huge contrasts between New Zealand and pretty well anywhere else in the world. Flying over the two countries you soon get the feeling that Australia is one big sand pit, while New Zealand is just so green and fresh! Not that we would knock our delightful Aussie neighbours!!!

But even within New Zealand, we’ve got huge contrasts between the beaches and islands of the Bay of Islands in the North, to the raw wilderness of Milford Sound and Fiordland, and everything in between. And of course there are all the special people you get to meet along the way!

Save NZ$400 on small group tours

The Great New Zealand Travel Company tours have some simple but major difference over most group tours:

  1. Groups are limited to no more than 16 guests, who enjoy a very high standard of accommodation and the service you would expect with such a small group.
  2. The itineraries are structured so that you aren’t on the move every day, but instead have time in key locations to get out and do your own thing. These are NOT tours for folk who like to sit on a coach and watch the world pass them by!!!
  3. Because you have some free days in different places, it allows you to include some special interest activities, such as diving, day walks and kayaking for the adventurous types, or maybe some golf, wine tours or shopping for others.

The most popular tour by far is the Pacific Escapade 18 day tour from Auckland to Christchurch, which includes highlights such as Auckland, Rotorua geothermal region, the Marlborough Sounds, Kaikoura, Christchurch, the West Coast glaciers and of course Queenstown.

You can download a full brochure of the tours from our website – just click here

Until the end of April, save NZ$400 per person on all Great New Zealand Travel Company tours. Offer is not available for Northern Odyssey or Captivating Northland tours, and you must book and pay your deposit before the end of April 2005.

The Ultimate Adventure Tour

For all you adrenaline junkies out there who think bungy jumping is like a walk in the park on a sunny day, we’ve put together the Ultimate Adventure Tour. Consider 18 days in Godzone doing things like:

  • 3 day sailing trip to the Bay of Islands on a round the world racing yacht
  • Caving the Lost World Epic, and Canyoning the Wilkin
  • The Tongariro Crossing – the best one day walk anywhere
  • A winery cycling tour, and mountain biking in Hanmer Forest
  • An overnight heli-hike on one of our West Coast glaciers
  • A 2 day kayaking trip into the Fiordland wilderness
  • The Awesome Foursome in Queenstown – bungy, jetboat, raft and helicopter in the same day
  • Diving (if you dive) at locations like the Poor Knights, Pupu Springs, and much more

This tour is not for the feint hearted! But if you are up for the challenge you can read all about it on our website. If you’re not up for the challenge, you can still read about it!

Wanderlust votes NZ world's safest destination

New Zealand has been voted the safest destination in the world by readers of a British-based travel magazine.
The independent travellers' magazine Wanderlust awarded the title for the second year in a row. Its editor says New Zealand offers great freedom from worrying about dangerous animals, political instability, and ropey transport.
As well, it offered great skiing, adrenalin sports, diving, trekking, surfing and sailing.
New Zealand came in ahead of Australia and the UK.

Ski season not far away

We’re enjoying a superb late summer at present, but the winter snow down south isn’t too far away – it is April already!!! And with the approaching snow comes our latest South Island ski packages, including accommodation, transport and ski/activity passes. If you’re planning on travelling to New Zealand between June and October we can easily incorporate a few days skiing, or heli-skiing if you’re up for it.

Check out the ski packages on our website or enquire for further information

Watch this space

You’ll have to wait for next month’s newsletter to read about the exciting changes we are making to our group adventure tours plus some really exciting developments at the Poor Knights Marine Reserve.

Anyway, enjoy the rest of your April and let us know if we can help with your travel plans.
Cheers!
