Q: Who are your guided kayaking tours suitable for?

A: Guided tours are generally suitable for:
(a) people who have never kayaked before or
(b) groups with limited kayaking skills or
(c) people travelling on their own, and are also popular with
(d) experienced paddlers wanting to take advantage of a guide’s knowledge of the area and of paddling conditions.

Your guide will provide friendly ongoing instruction, make all safety related decisions, help set up campsites and provide kayaking advice and natural history information. It is an opportunity within a small friendly group, no larger than 8, to relax and enjoy Fiordland’s awesome paddling, learn some new skills and gain experience in sea kayaking.

Generally double kayaks are used on guided tours unless you have significant paddling experience and skills.

The minimum age is 15 years; for a family group on the lakes or in Milford Sound, 12 years.

Q: What if I want to do my own thing. Can I just hire a kayak?

A: For safety reasons, freedom rentals are only suitable for experienced kayakers, and even then only for 2 or more people (no solo rentals). Please contact us for further details.

Detailed route advice, safety briefing and weather information is provided but this is not a substitute for experience. Independent renters take full responsibility for their own safety and all rental equipment.
