Fiordland

After a leisurely breakfast, you guide will collect you at 10am. You will travel on a private coach through beautiful countryside to stunning Lake Te Anau. After dropping off your bags, you have some free time to explore the area.

Set amongst a skyline of breathtaking mountains, Te Anau is one of the great scenic towns of the South Island. It's location in Fiordland means that the township has some of the most spectacular wilderness landscapes in New Zealand. The name Te Anau translates in Maori to 'Caves of Swirling Water' and until a relatively recent discovery, the origin of the swirling waters remained lost in old Maori legend. The town is surrounded by beauty and brimming with great dining options and unique attractions.

The helicopters depart from 2pm for a sensational 20 minute scenic flight which lands on the ships heli-pad, waiting for you in the stunning fiords. After settling into your cabin and meeting the crew, you can choose to go ashore with the guides or simply relax and take in your surroundings. Dinner is served from 7pm in the interior dining room.

Caswell Sound

Today we explore Caswell Sound further and trace the remnants of the 1905 and 1949 US-NZ Scientific Expeditions when some 18 Wapiti deer, half of which were a gift from then US President Theodore Roosevelt, were released into the area to breed with NZ deer as game. Some fishing and shore excursions are planned with the guide this afternoon to explore this sensational region in intimate detail.

George Sound

Continuing North we enter George Sound where we will experience the beautiful Alice waterfalls. For those who are keen for a walk or to explore here you have the option to hike up to the lakes above. Anchorage Cove is another favourite, with hot water springs, or you can try a trip up the George river. We spend the night at the head of the fiord where, on clear evenings, the unpolluted sky is full of stars and the top deck of the ship is the perfect viewing platform.

We have several trips ashore today with our guide to explore this breathtaking and remote region.

We enter the magnificent Milford Sound and leisurely cruise the entire length, stopping at majestic waterfalls along the way.  At our anchorage in Deepwater Basin you will have the opportunity to walk part of the Milford Track. We spend the last night with the most spectacular views of Milford Sound from the ship. The Captain’s farewell dinner is tonight where you have time to reflect on your adventure with fellow guests and crew.
