Waiheke Island

Choose to start you day with a refreshing swim off the back of the ship, or relax until it’s time for a sumptuous breakfast on deck (with champagne if you fancy) – it's up to you. Later this morning we go ashore for a wine tour and cultural visit of Waiheke island where we will visit three wineries:

Kennedy Point Vineyard was established in 1996 and from the beginning, the philosophy of the family owned vineyard has been focusing on producing the very best wines from the site matched with thorough attention in the Vineyard and wine production.

Peacock Sky Vineyard nestles in the coastal hills of the valley adjacent to the northern coast of Waiheke Island. The wines are carefully matched with morsels of tempting food created daily by vineyard staff.

Passage Rock Wines, established in 1993, specializes in producing Waiheke wines of distinction, recognising the strengths of each region to produce the best wine for the season, the site and the most appropriate grape variety.

We finish with lunch at the Passage Rock café, the perfect setting to relax and take in the beautiful views. After lunch we board the ship and course is set for Great Barrier Island. Keep your eyes out for dolphins!

Dining Included (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

3
Great Barrier Island

With a population of just 850, Great Barrier Island is a wild and enchanting paradise with a colourful history involving whaling, gold and silver mining, shipwrecks and alternative lifestyles. Fitzroy Harbour is one of the country’s most beautiful harbours and whose deep water allows the ship close enough to shore to anchor and tie the stern to a pohutukawa tree. Kaka parrots squawk overhead, performing entertaining aerobatics and rare pateke ducks cruise around the boat, posing for photographs. The tall-forested mountains create a backdrop of amazing natural beauty.

Chose to explore the coast in one of our high-powered tenders, or slip into a sea kayak and enjoy the tranquility of paddling at your own pace. And there’s fantastic fishing – you catch ‘em, we’ll cook ‘em!

Setting sail after dinner, we recommend you find a quiet place on deck to see the brilliance of the night sky. Free from pollution it delivers one of the most stunning star shows on the planet.

Dining Included (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

4
Whangamumu Harbour

You will awake to the unspoilt beauty of Whangamumu. Beginning in 1844 as a whaling station, Northlands' longest running and most successful, and the only one in the world that caught whales with nets, it was transformed in 1910 into a factory.

After exploring the harbour and ashore, we round Cape Brett and enter the Bay of Islands where we will spend the night at anchor in Deep Water Cove.

Dining Included (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

5
Bay of Islands

Today’s destination is beautiful Oke Bay, an anchorage that will tempt you for a swim off the back of the ship and where you might be lucky enough to have another dolphin encounter. The water is beautifully clear and swimming all the way to the beach is an option. After lunch you will be taken on a scenic helicopter flight around the Bay of Islands. Flights depart right off the heli-deck on the ship and fly over the crystal clear turquoise waters of the main island group to the world famous 'Hole in the Rock'. Russell, Paihia and Waitangi are also viewed from the air and experience the thrill of landing back onto the ships heli-deck. When the sun begins to set we return through the Albert Passage to our anchorage in Parekura Bay.

Dining Included (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

6
Islands of the Bay | Historic Russell

Today you’ll visit beautiful Motuarohia-Roberton Island, which you can explore in many different ways. Snorkel in the sheltered lagoon, kayak around the bay or hike up to the historic Maori Pa site. From the summit you’ll be rewarded by spectacular views of the entire Bay of Islands area – green jewels in a sea of sparkling blue. Ask one of the crew to tell you the intriguing and dark history of the island.

Later in the afternoon we’ll cruise to Urupukapuka, the largest island in the bay, with a detour to our special spot to collect fresh green-lipped mussels for an afternoon snack, complete with a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Watch the sunset while sipping a sundowner, then look forward to a night of indulgence with the Captain’s dinner in Russell.
