  The Poor Knights are undoubtedly the jewel in the crown of New Zealand diving. A marine reserve since 1981 this subtropical reef system presents a stunning diversity of reef fish, pelagics, sponges, anemonies, nudibranchs and sea weeds - so good that Jacques Cousteau rated the Poor Knights as one of the top 10 dive sites in the world.   Formerly a US Navy ship, the Tui was designed for hydrological survey and submarine hunting spy work and protected New Zealand's anti nuclear protest fleet at Mururoa.

• HMNZS Waikato
  

  HMNZS Waikato was purposefully sunk in November 2000 and now lies 30 metres down and bolt upright on the seabed. She has large holes cut in the side to make entry and exit very safe and less experienced divers will gain valuable wreck diving experience from the vessel. The shallowest part of the wreck is only 8 metres from the surface.

• Riwaka Caverns
  

  The Riwaka Caverns are a very interesting but easy freshwater cave dive for any experience level. A short bush walk takes you to the top of the stream and the basin where you can enter the cave. Following safety lines laid for the fairly short swims, you surface inside two different caverns completely sealed from the light.

• Mikhael Lermontov
  

  On 16 February 1986 the 170 metre long Mikhael Lermontov, Russia's then most luxurious cruise liner, became one of the largest and most accessible diving wrecks of the modern era when she sunk under mysterious circumstances in the Marlborough Sounds. The wreck is massive and still fully intact. Experienced in superb or poor visibility, the over-riding impression that imprints on your mind is one of colossal size.
