PAKIRI - Lake View Chalets

From Pakiri you will ride along the splendid white beach to Te Arai the point on the east coast overlooking the islands of Taranga the Hen and Chickens the Barrier Islands Hauturu and Aotea and the Motuhinau. All in the territory of the Ngatiwai Iwi and known as the floats on the net of Toi.

You will follow the trails run by the great warrior and runner Taukokopu whose prowess with the taiaha and whose speed was renowned. His task was to warn the people of approaching war parties and other dangers. Te Arai was the Pa of Tahuhu ki Te Rangi who landed on the moekakara waka at Whakatu whenua where the marine Reserve is now. He also lived at Otahuhu now part of Auckland .

Here we will stay in comfortable cosy Lake View Chalets during the winter depending on availability.

In summer we may stay in a converted wool shed bunkhouse and enjoy a BBQ under the stars.

After a big breakfast, saddle up your horse and a full days riding up over Te Arai Point where you will enjoy magnificent views of the islands Te Taranga (Hen and Chickens) and both the Little Barrier and Great Barrier Islands Hauturu and Aotea respectively, from the trail high above the sea. Learn how our ancestors followed the call of the whales and landed their waka (canoe) near here. Enjoy your ride through the territory of the great chief Te Kiri of the Ngati Wai.

More forest and beach riding with some native rainforest .
