The walking track takes you both inland into the lush native bush and also along the coastal beaches and is known for its outstanding beauty. With an overall distance of only 38km (23 mi) it is one of the easiest Great Walks in New Zealand and can be easily hiked from top to bottom in three to five days. With the region having such mild climate and high sunshine hours it is a suitable for people of all ages to enjoy and particularly ideal for those planning a family-walking holiday in New Zealand. 

The walking tracks let you explore the stunning golden beaches and forested headlands including face-to-face encounters with marine wildlife and birds. Tonga Island, located in the park and is home to a seal colony and you may be lucky enough to spot visiting dolphins and Orcas as they cruise through the Abel Tasman.

There are many options available for exploring the park, you may prefer using a water taxi, sailing boat, sea kayak or simply walk into the Abel Tasman. Combinations are popular; you could spend a couple of days guided hiking with a couple of days kayaking. Accommodation options range from 5 star luxury lodges to comfortable B&B's to beach camping in tents.
