Activity planner - Coromandel Peninsula

The Coromandel Peninsula lies east of Auckland, on the other side of the Hauraki Gulf.

An impressive, heavily forested mountain range runs right up the middle of this peninsula - it’s bordered on each side by kilometres of spectacular coastline. On the west coast, there’s a never-ending parade of beaches, coves and harbours lined with pohutukawa trees (a red flowering native of New Zealand) . The eastern side of the Coromandel is furnished with an amazing collection of white sand and surf beaches.

The Coromandel's fascinating history is evident in gold mining relics, logging dams and ancient Maori pa (fortified village) sites. The past can also be found in the charming colonial architecture and historical buildings preserved in several towns around the region.

The coastal nature of the Coromandel makes it a brilliant choice if you like to fish, surf, dive, swim or wander along beaches. For contrast you can head for the hills and hike the trails in the forest.

Canyoning

The North Island's highest waterfall…and New Zealand's biggest canyoning adventure! Sea Kayaking

Take to the water in beautiful Cathedral Cove. Paddle at your own pace along the volcanic coastline and golden beaches. Plenty of time to swim or snorkel in the crystal clear waters. Your guide will help you discover the magic of this special place. Half day tour or enjoy the atmosphere of the sunset tour.

Glow Worm Night Experience

Magical and intoxicating, wander through semi tropical rain forest. Your guide will explain the magic of the bush and help you discover the glowworms. No caves, the glowworms are all around you as in a fairy grotto. Remember no snakes, spiders or bears to worry about in the New Zealand forest. A very special experience.

A Day at the Beach

Begin the day with a unique scenic adventure boat trip in the beautiful Hahei Marine Reserve. View the world famous Cathedral Cove and the islands, reefs and sea caves of this magnificent volcanic coastline. Many visitors say this is the highlight of their New Zealand holiday. Spend the rest of the day on the beach or exploring the town. Relax & enjoy!

Coastal Fishing

Take to the water and chase the snapper, warehou, terakihi and numerous other fish. The Coromandel coast has an abundance of great fishing spots. Your local highly knowledgeable skipper will take you to the fish. All the inside information, bait and fishing gear supplied. If you love fishing or just want to try your hand, you wont be disappointed with this excursion.

Golf

Golfing against the backdrop of New Zealand native bush. Idyllic, peaceful and fun, isn’t this how golf is meant to be? One round or two, you decide, there are 18 challenges ahead of you at the Mercury Bay Golf Club. An easy walking course with bar and food facilities on site. Clubs and course fees included.

Horse Trekking

The Real New Zealand ride. This guided horse trek takes you into the Coromandel ranges following the original packhorse trails of the 1800’s. Rugged ranges, native bush and rolling farmland unfold before you on this two hour ride. Feel adventurous? Try horseback river hole swimming as well. All ages and experience welcome.
